Frequently Asked Questions
Short and clear answers to what our customers in Amsterdam ask most often.
How fast can you reach us in Amsterdam?
On average within 30 minutes. We have technicians spread across the region, even at night.
What does opening a door cost?
For a standard door opening within Amsterdam we use a starting indication of € 89. The exact price depends on the lock and we determine it once our technician sees it, we only start after your approval.
Do you give a fixed price over the phone?
No, we deliberately do not do that, that would be unfair since we haven't seen the lock yet. We do give the same starting indication as shown on this site, so you are never caught by surprise.
Do you cause damage to the door?
In 95% of cases we open without any damage. If drilling is necessary after all, we tell you beforehand and immediately install a new cylinder.
Do you also work in the evening and on weekends?
Yes, we are reachable 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. One of our technicians is always on duty.
Can I pay by card?
Yes, you can pay by card or cash. On request we provide an invoice for your home contents insurance.
Does my insurance cover the costs?
In case of burglary damage and lockouts, the vast majority of Dutch home contents insurers reimburse our invoice. We provide a specified invoice.
Do you hold an SKG certification?
Yes. We work according to the guidelines of SKG and the Police Label Secured Housing (PKVW).
Can I also have keys cut?
Yes, we cut keys on site or through our key service. For security cylinders proof of ownership is required.
More good things to know
The questions above answer most of the calls we receive, but in practice conversations often go further than a single fact. Below is the broader context in which we do our work, written the way we would tell it to you on the phone or at your home. No marketing talk, just how things work with us.
Our planning is essentially reactive: we keep room free for emergencies. That means we usually are not booked out weeks ahead, so you can almost always reach us the same day. For non-urgent work (a cylinder replacement when moving house, for example) we usually schedule within 24 to 48 hours, at a time that suits you, even in the evening or on weekends.
We often get questions about the quality of our materials. We deliberately work with a short list of preferred brands that we know hold up without issues: Nemef, M&C, Mauer, S2/Lips, KFV, AXA and ABUS. Our van is stocked accordingly, with the most common cylinder sizes and parts in stock. In about 95% of emergency jobs we can replace on the spot immediately.
As for our warranty terms, we keep it simple. The manufacturer's warranty applies to the material (often ten years for SKG*** cylinders, five years for multi-point locks). We give two years of warranty on our workmanship. If something does not function properly within that period due to an error in our installation, we come back free of charge.
Privacy and discretion are self-evident to us. What we see in your home, stays in your home. We do not keep photos or descriptions of your home, locks or any valuable contents. Our records only retain what is strictly necessary for invoicing, warranty and insurance purposes.
For complaints or dissatisfaction we apply a simple rule: call us within fourteen days, and we will fix it. Our reputation in Amsterdam matters far more to us than any single invoice, and we would rather go one step too far than one step too short to keep you satisfied.
Have a question that isn't listed here? Feel free to call or email us. We also answer calls we earn nothing from, simply because you will think of us with confidence next time. Good advice costs us nothing extra, and it helps you move forward. That is how we like to do this work.
The answers above are general guidelines based on our experience with locks and doors in Amsterdam and the surrounding area. Every lock, every door and every home is different, and in emergency situations details can be decisive. If this page does not fully answer your question, feel free to call or email us, a personal piece of advice costs you nothing.
We are not an insurance advisor or lawyer. For questions about the exact coverage of your home contents insurance we refer you to your own policy or intermediary. We do provide a standard specified invoice with all the details your insurer needs.
Our starting indications are excluding VAT and not a legally binding offer, but they are a serious estimate that we also deliver on in 95% of cases. We only deviate after your explicit consent, on site, before any work begins.
All brand names on this page (Nemef, Lips, KFV, AXA, S2, M&C, Mauer, ABUS, DOM) are the property of their respective owners and are mentioned here solely for the information of our customers.
